If we were boastful people, we of Sint Eustatius would boast of many distinct strengths and opportunities for the foreign investor. Statia is politically stable: our democratic government and peaceful, hardworking ways make for a safe and pleasant business environment. Geography is on our side here on Statia too: we are relatively close to the US mainland via the Sint Maarten-gateway and a forthcoming direct air connection with Puerto Rico. There is no real estate tax or property tax on Statia, and land is reasonably priced.
In its Government Program the Island Government has identified six (6) areas of priority areas for
sustainable island development. Among these is sustainable economic development with the focus
on:
Tourism
Medical
Infrastructure
