Call for ‘nature based business case’ project proposals.

In the period of September 12 -16, 2022, partners of the project ‘Healthy Dutch Caribbean Islands’ organized a range of workshops at CNSI. The goal was to support the local community and organisations in the development of nature-based business cases that will improve well-being in Statia.

Did you miss these workshops? Business cases can still be submitted. Please send a short description of Subject, Goal, Proposed Leader, Stakeholders and a rough Financial Picture to Sjef Staps at s.staps@louisbolk.nl  before the 7th of October 2022 .

Last May, a project delegation interviewed a wide range of organisations and people in Statia. They learned about Statia’s visions for improvements. In the September workshops, there was the opportunity to combine ideas for developing promising business cases. They should be sustainable, socially acceptable and economically feasible. Four business cases will be selected to run until the end of 2024. The project team will offer you experience, tools and guidance throughout this process. The ultimate goal is that the business cases continue independently after 2024.

The Healthy Dutch Caribbean Island project is carried out by the Louis Bolk Institute, Wageningen University and Van Oord Offshore. Partners are the Government of St Eustatius, STENAPA, DCNA, Foundation Future Coral Reefs, NIOZ and HBO-University Van Hall Larenstein.

The director of Economy Nature and Infrastructure Anthony Reid is encouraging all residents of St. Eustatius, young and old, to submit their project proposal on time. He is also encouraging business- minded people to collaborate where necessary on the business proposals.

Mr. Eric Boman , Director of St. Eustatius National Parks (STENAP) applauds the initiative as he would like to see more Statians benefit from nature.
