Vacancy Director Economy, Nature and Infrastructure ( ENI )

The ENI director oversees the directorate of economy, nature and infrastructure, which is responsible for economic development, the improvement of infrastructure and the maintenance of public spaces in Statia, including waste management and the development of agriculture and fisheries. The directorate also issues permits and supervises the enforcement of nature conservation. The common goal is to create economic opportunities through infrastructure development and conservation. In undertaking its responsibilities, the directorate considers the interests of residents, biodiversity and businesses. In this way, it leads a collaborative effort towards building a balanced and sustainable future for St Eustatius. 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Contributing ideas about important issues in your line of work.
  • Setting objectives in areas such as the economy, spatial development and biodiversity, among others, and exploring how best to achieve these objectives.
  • Providing leadership and direction to the directorate staff.
  • Working closely with the managers of the various units within the directorate: veterinary services; programme and policy; public works and services; and licensing, supervision and enforcement.
  • Coordinating policy development and their implementation.
  • Representing the Statia Government at meetings and events as needed.
  • Being part of the management team.


Specific Requirements:

  • Academic (WO) working and level of thinking preferably from an economic perspective.
  • Extensive management experience in a similar position.
  • Knowledge of the government's policy and budget cycle and operations.
  • Required Skills/Abilities:

Terms of employment

The position is temporary for a trial period of one year, with the prospect of permanent appointment. 

The salary scaling is equivalent to scale 13 on the salary scale, with a minimum of of $5251.14 and a maximum of $6554.03 gross monthly, based on a 36-hour work week. This is in accordance with the salary table of the Statia Government dated 1 January 2023. Salary scaling is based on qualification and experience. In addition, this employee will receive a holiday allowance of 8.33% an end-of-year bonus of 8.33% of the annual income.

The successful candidate must provide a certificate of good conduct (VOG) and undergo a medical for inclusion in the pension fund.
