Vacancy Culture Coach

The culture coach - activities coordinator and cultural education collaborates with local cultural partners, as well as schools, volunteers and children to promote active participation in culture, both at school and in their free time. By facilitating the process and empowering all involved, the officer helps to make art, dance, theatre, culture and heritage in Statia accessible to all residents.

The culture coach - activities coordinator and cultural education is assigned to the department of culture and events, a unit of the directorate of social domain. The department of culture is a small team of active professionals that is developing rapidly. The team members operate in a friendly manner and support each other in the work that they do.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Facilitating the development and organisation of cultural activities, projects and events to increase cultural participation and awareness by actively collaborating with schools and cultural stakeholders.
  • Developing, coordinating and presenting guest lessons, activities and workshops on the various disciplines: arts, crafts, music, theatre, dance and multimedia, based on requests from the schools. This is part of the commitment to strengthening cultural education in schools.
  • Identifying the needs of the various stakeholders and guiding, as well as aligning the collective efforts by listening to the stakeholders;  organising regular and structural discussions and brainstorming sessions.
  • Along with your colleagues, advising cultural stakeholders and schools about ongoing developments.
  • Taking the views of all stakeholders into consideration, supporting schools and other stakeholders in developing their strategies and policies, and implementing programmes in the area of cultural education.
  • An MBO 4 diploma or a bachelor's degree (HBO).
  • A minimum of three years’ relevant work experience, preferably in culture, art, education and/or organising activities.
  • Broad knowledge and insight of the Statian work environment, ongoing developments, and the interests and needs of stakeholders. The ability to use that knowledge to connect, align and empower people.
  • Knowledge of the relevant regulations and policy frameworks. Knowledge of the local and regional cultural environment would be an asset
  • The ability to develop, coordinate and/or carry out activities and events and how to embed and maintain cultural aspects and traditions
  • The ability to assess the quality of cultural education plans and programmes offered by providers
  • Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Excellent ability to make contact, identify risks, build relationships and maintain trust
  • Excellent communication and social skills; and you enjoy working together as part of a small team
  • A proactive work attitude, with a focus on cooperation and co-creation
  • The ability to handle stress and to initiate and strengthen collaboration with stakeholders
  • Fluent in English, both oral and written. Fluency in Dutch and/or Spanish would be an asset
  • Flexible in approach to working hours (available at least one evening per week).

Terms of employment

The culture coach - activities coordinator and cultural education will be based in Statia. The position is temporary for a fixed period ending 31 December 2025.

The salary scaling is equivalent to scale 8 on the salary scale, with a minimum of  $2,568.74 and a maximum of $3,593.74 gross monthly, based on a 36-hour work week. This is in accordance with the salary table of the Statia Government dated 1 January 2023. Salary scaling is based on qualification and experience. In addition, this employee will receive a holiday allowance of 8.33% an end-of-year bonus of 8.33% of the annual income.

The successful candidate must provide a certificate of good conduct (VOG) and undergo a medical for inclusion in the pension fund.
