The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee safeguards the security of the State, both in the Netherlands and further afield. It is deployed globally at locations of strategic importance: from royal palaces to the external borders of Europe, and from airports in the Caribbean Netherlands to crisis areas all over the world.
The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee performs a number of tasks on Statia:
- Fighting crime in collaboration with the local police and the Coast Guard
- Border control on the island, in the harbor and at the airport
- Performing basic police tasks in collaboration with the police
