The Public Entity Sint Eustatius (OLE) carries out both municipal and provincial tasks on this special municipality of the Netherlands. Together with our 180 colleagues, we work towards good governance, sustainable development and a strong community. Working at OLE means helping shape the future of a unique and resilient island.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Help shape the future of Public Health on Sint Eustatius. As our Physician / Manager Public Health, you combine medical expertise with leadership and strategic responsibility. You lead a multidisciplinary team, advise the Executive Council on public health matters and ensure that policies and programmes contribute to the health and wellbeing of our community.

Public Health on Sint Eustatius covers a broad range of responsibilities, from disease prevention and health promotion to infectious disease control, surveillance and policy development. In a small island community, your decisions and actions have a direct and visible impact.

You will lead the Public Health Department within the Social Domain and work closely with the Director of Social Domain, healthcare providers, government departments and national and international partners.

This position combines strategic leadership with practical involvement. You know when to provide direction, when to support your team and when a hands-on approach is needed.

What will you do?

  • Provide medical and public health leadership, including infectious disease control, epidemiological surveillance and the delivery of essential public health services.
  • Lead and develop the Public Health Department, setting clear priorities, supporting employees and creating a professional and collaborative working environment.
  • Develop and implement public health strategies, policies and programmes based on evidence, community needs and available resources.
  • Advise the Director of Social Domain and the Executive Council on public health risks, developments and policy decisions.
  • Manage departmental planning, budgets, staffing and performance, ensuring continuity, quality and accountability.
  • Strengthen the department through organisational development, improved processes and sustainable implementation of policies and programmes.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with healthcare providers, schools, community organisations and partners such as VWS, RIVM, CARPHA and PAHO.
  • Promote a Health in All Policies approach, ensuring that health considerations are included in wider government decision-making.

You will have the professional responsibility and scope to further develop Public Health on Sint Eustatius. Your challenge is to translate plans into practical improvements while maintaining the quality and continuity of daily services.
