Statia and Anguilla Strengthen Regional Cooperation on Waste Management

A government delegation from Anguilla paid a one-day working visit to Statia to exchange knowledge and best practices in waste management, further strengthening regional cooperation in sustainable development.

The delegation was welcomed by Deputy Island Governor Sharon Hassell and Commissioner of Public Health and Waste Management, Reuben Merkman.

The visiting team included the Hon. Kyle Hodge, Minister of Economic Development, Lands, Physical Planning, Water and Natural Resources; the Hon. Cardigan Connor, Minister of Health; Ambrell Richardson, Director of Public Health; and Carencia Rouse, Director of Environment.

The programme featured a tour of the government-owned waste management facility, directed and operated by EJL Services. The delegation was also given an island tour to observe how waste management practices are applied across the community. In addition, they met with the Executive Council to discuss governance, infrastructure, and the role of waste management in sustainable development.

Commissioner Merkman said: “We are pleased that the Anguillian Government sees great value in the work being carried out on our Island. This visit highlights the progress we are making in sustainable waste management and the opportunities for stronger Caribbean partnerships in tackling shared challenges.”

With this visit, Statia Government reinforces its leadership in sustainable practices and its determination to help build a cleaner, more resilient Island for future generations.
