The Statia delegation consisted of Interim Unit Manager Roland Tuitt, Senior Policy Adviser Nadika Spanner and Junior Policy Adviser Nivea Spanner. They joined representatives from the Finance Departments of Bonaire and Saba, BZK and the Board of Financial Supervision (CFT) to discuss financial policies, reporting requirements and shared challenges.
Throughout the programme, participants addressed several important topics, including the new Wet FinBES and BBV BES, the format for implementation reports, sustainable financing for the physical environment, special grants and the proposed Nota Weerstandsvermogen.
Particular attention was given to the proposed Nota Weerstandsvermogen, with representatives from the three islands sharing their perspectives and raising concerns requiring further consideration. The Finance Unit Managers agreed to consult with one another before continuing discussions with BZK and CFT, with the aim of reaching an agreement that reflects the circumstances and priorities of the BES islands.
During the sessions, the Statia delegation delivered two presentations on foreign exchange and the management of special grants (bijzondere uitkeringen). These presentations highlighted the island's financial management processes and provided an opportunity to share practical experiences and approaches to financial administration and reporting.
The visit also built on progress made during the 2025 Financial Management Days, when the three islands committed to maintaining closer contact. Since then, their Finance Departments have communicated more regularly, helping to improve consistency in financial reporting and identify effective practices that can be applied across the islands.
In addition to the formal sessions, the delegation visited the Dutch House of Representatives and participated in a guided walk through The Hague. These activities offered further insight into the political and institutional environment in which decisions affecting the Caribbean Netherlands are made.
BZK also organised a meet-and-greet with representatives from its ministry and other Dutch ministries working with Statia. The discussions provided an opportunity to address matters of mutual interest and establish contacts for future communication.
The Finance Department values its participation in these discussions and the opportunity to contribute to financial developments affecting the BES islands. The knowledge gained and professional connections established during the visit will support its ongoing efforts to improve financial management and reporting on Statia.
