Statia Government Defines Key Actions to Advance Climate Adaptation Plan. Stakeholders help shape a roadmap for a future-ready Statia

The Statia Government is moving forward with its Climate Adaptation Plan by deciding which actions should be part of the Action Agenda. These actions were discussed in several focus group sessions this week, based on earlier conversations held in February.

The sessions offered stakeholders the opportunity to review and refine the proposed direction of the Climate Plan on themes such as climate, infrastructure and mobility. The draft Action Agenda outlines a long-term vision for a future-ready and self-reliant Statia, with key steps identified across several time horizons. These include a quick win for 2025, concrete steps by 2026, scaling efforts by 2030, major milestones by 2050, and an island that is healthy, secure, and able to support generations to come by 2100.

Participants were invited to examine both the strategic opportunities and the practical steps outlined in the draft. The sessions focused on ensuring that the Climate Plan aligns with Statia’s needs and ambitions for a future-ready Statia, while also identifying realistic and impactful ways to move forward.

The Climate Adaptation Plan intends to serve as a guiding framework for the island’s response to climate change, shaped by input from local experts, organizations, and community members. The involvement of stakeholders is essential to ensure the plan is actionable, inclusive, and reflective of Statia’s priorities. With local insight at its core, the plan aims to build a solid foundation for strong and lasting development and a Statia that is prepared for what lies ahead.
