“I think playgrounds are important because we can share our creativity with our friends,” said one of the student participants during the Playground Co-Creation Workshop.
A project representative explained that involving children in the design process is key. “This workshop is an important step in creating a playground that truly belongs to the children. Their ideas help ensure the space is inclusive, engaging and meaningful.”
During the session, students from each primary school shared their ideas and preferences with the architects for the new playground at the Community Centre.
The workshop forms part of a wider effort to improve play opportunities on the island, guided by findings from the Playspace Scan done by Jantje Beton. The scan highlights the importance of existing playgrounds, while also pointing to areas for improvement, including safety, maintenance, and the need for more engaging equipment.
