Vacancy, Unit Manager Security

The unit manager, security is responsible for supervising the security staff and supervisors at the harbour and airport, thus contributing to a well-trained and service-oriented security team.

The unit manager, security is assigned to the directorate of transport, which oversees transport, infrastructure and airport processes, with emphasis on maintaining reliability, availability and security within the existing infrastructure. The directorate has responsibility for the airport and the harbour, where attention is paid to the essential security processes, as well as maintenance and infrastructural development with the future in mind. 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Keeping the team informed of the latest developments in safety and the associated laws and regulations. 
  • Planning and coordinating operations and establishing clear priorities. 
  • Keeping a close eye on progress. Together with the three supervisors, managing and assessing the quality of the service provided. 
  • Ensuring manuals and work instructions are always up to date. 
  • Consulting with stakeholders, such as the various service providers, managers and the Royal Netherlands Maréchaussée.
  • Preparing quality programmes to ensure that work is carried out within proper frameworks.
  • Monitoring, adjusting and optimising processes.
  • Ensuring proper certification of all security staff.

Specific Requirements:

  • An HBO degree, preferably in security management.
  • At least three years’ management experience within the security industry.
  • Interest in port security and experience in quality management.
  • Good command of Dutch and English, both written and oral.
  • A driver's license B.

  • Ability to coach and guide subordinates/colleagues in an inspiring way. 
  • Ability to monitor and improve the quality of processes and results. 
  • Ability to recognise the possibilities and opportunities for optimisation. 

Terms of employment

This employee will be based in Statia. The position is temporary for a for a trial period of one year, with the prospect of a permanent appointment. 

The salary scaling is equivalent to scale 10 on the salary scale, with a minimum of $3,392.17 and a maximum of $4,492.10 gross monthly, based on a 36-hour work week. This is in accordance with the salary table of the Statia Government dated 1 January 2023. Salary scaling is based on qualification and experience. In addition, this employee will receive a holiday allowance of 8.33% an end-of-year bonus of 8.33% of the annual income.

The successful candidate must provide a certificate of good conduct (VOG) and undergo a medical test for inclusion in the pension fund.
