Tasks and Responsibilities

The Public Health department is looking for a Healthy Lifestyle Officer who will be responsible for the implementation and coordination of the local JOGG approach (Healthy Youth, Healthy Future) on Sint Eustatius. The primary focus of this role is execution and practical implementation, ensuring that policies translate into visible and measurable improvements in the healthy livestyles of children, youth and parents. A key project within this position is the development and implementation of healthy school meals initiatives and the installation of watertaps.

What will you do?

In this role you coordinate and support the implementation of healthy lifestyle initiatives on Sint Eustatius, with a focus on the JOGG approach (Healthy Youth, Healthy Future) and the Healthy School programme. You work closely with schools, childcare organizations, community partners and local stakeholders to translate public health policy into practical initiatives that contribute to healthier lifestyles for children and youth.

Your main responsibilities include:

  • Organize and coordinate the local JOGG approach and network. Initiate, collaborate on and implement practical healthy lifestyle interventions in schools, childcare organizations and sports settings.
  • Monitor progress and report on results, and ensure visibility of activities within the community.
  • Organize and coordinate the installation of 22 watertaps throughout the island.
  • Assess the current situation of school meal provisions and develop and implement a practical action plan for healthy school meals.
  • Coordinate with school boards, caterers, suppliers and local food providers.
  • Organize information sessions for parents and caregivers and promote complementary educational activities such as school gardens, cooking workshops and nutrition awareness days.
  • Support the translation of health policy into concrete execution plans within local programmes.

Employment Conditions

The selected candidate may receive:

  • Temporary employment for a trial period of one year, with the prospect of permanent employment.

  • Salary: Scale 9, gross monthly between $3,576,23 – $4,797.38 (36-hour workweek). This is a newly established position within OLE; the final job evaluation is currently being determined and may still be subject to change.

  • Working hours: Full-time, 36 hours per week.

  • Allowances: Holiday allowance of 8.33% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.33% of the annual salary.

  • 182 holiday hours per year pro rata based of a 36-hour working week.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree (HBO) or equivalent working and thinking level, preferably in public health, social sciences, nutrition, sports, or a related field.
  • Relevant experience with project coordination, community programmes or health promotion initiatives.
  • Affinity with public health, youth development and healthy nutrition.
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders such as schools, community organizations or public institutions is an advantage.
  • Clear communication skills in both English and Dutch (verbal and written);
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills;
  • Ability to build partnerships and connect stakeholders;
