Upon arrival at F.D. Roosevelt Airport, Her Royal Highness was welcomed by Her Excellency Island Governor Alida Francis, schoolchildren from across the island, residents and spectators. A vibrant performance by the Aloei Dancers marked the ceremonial greeting.
The first official stop was ReforeStatia, where Princess Beatrix toured the native nursery with STENAPA rangers, observing how indigenous plants and trees are cultivated to restore dry forest habitats and combat erosion. She received explanations on the island’s reforestation strategy, viewed seedling areas, and spoke with a park ranger ‘Jobo’ about safeguarding the critically endangered Lesser Antillean iguana.
Princess Beatrix then continued to the Public Library, where she met young participants in UNICEF’s Child Friendly Cities Initiative. They presented their creative projects on child rights, community safety and youth participation, highlighting how Statia’s children help shape a more inclusive and supportive community environment.
Her Royal Highness afterwards attended a lunch engagement at the Golden Rock Resort, where she was offered a tour of the grounds by the owner.
In the afternoon, the Princess arrived at the Government Guest House, where she met a local entrepreneurial couple from Celbees, producers of Statia made honey, soaps and natural products. She also interacted with two Statian students and reconnected with long time friend Mr Ishmael Berkel. Together, Princess Beatrix and Mr Berkel planted a native tree on the Guest House grounds a symbolic gesture representing resilience, partnership and shared care for Statia’s natural environment.
The visit continued at STENAPA’s headquarters and marine lab, where Her Royal Highness unveiled the sign and later learned about DCNA’s supported conservation efforts, marine research and endangered species protection.
Her Royal Highness returned to F.D. Roosevelt Airport in the late afternoon, where residents again gathered to bid farewell. A rendition from the GVP School steelpan performed, marking a warm and memorable conclusion to her visit.
Princess Beatrix expressed how thoroughly she enjoyed her time on Statia, noting her admiration for the island’s strong collaboration between youth, conservationists, cultural groups, entrepreneurs and community members.
The Statia Government extends its sincere appreciation to Her Royal Highness, the local coordinating committee, KPCN, Airport Management, Security, STENAPA, DCNA, and to all schools, organisations and residents who contributed to a positive, smooth and incident free visit.
