Store Closure Exemption
In Sint Eustatius, stores must close on public holidays. However, businesses can request special permission to remain open on certain public holidays.

How to Request an Exemption
If you want to keep your store open on a public holiday, you must submit a written request to the Island Governor at least 14 working days before the holiday. Address your letter to the Island Governor and submit it at the front desk, located at Van Tonningenweg 4.
What to Include in Your Request
Your request should include:
- Your business details
- The specific date(s) you wish to remain open
Decision
Once your request is reviewed, the Island Governor will notify you of the decision. You will receive a response via:

Businesses That May Remain Open Without Permission
Some businesses are automatically allowed to remain open and do not need special approval, including:
- Pharmacies (for medicine sales)
- Restaurants, bars, and coffee shops
- Hotels and accommodations
- Airport shops
- Fuel stations and bakeries (selling fresh bread and milk)
- Funeral supply shops
