Tasks and Responsibilities

The Family Support Coordinator is the central point of coordination for the prevention and approach of domestic violence, child abuse, and the protection of children’s rights on Sint Eustatius. Within the Unit Social Support, you will work closely with social workers, pedagogical professionals, healthcare partners, governmental organisations, and regional stakeholders to strengthen the island’s social care framework. In this role, you are responsible for strategic policy development, intergovernmental coordination, stakeholder management, and advising management on safeguarding and family support policies.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing, evaluating, and advising on protocols, policy frameworks, work processes, and cooperation agreements relating to domestic violence, child protection, and safeguarding;
  • Providing strategic coordination and oversight of training programmes, awareness campaigns, and implementation of legal guidelines for professionals and chain partners;
  • Establishing, representing and strengthening collaboration with ministries, regional partners, and the Public Entities of Saba and Bonaire;
  • Supporting the development of reporting structures, shelter solutions, and inter-island initiatives for victims of domestic violence;
  • Drafting annual plans, work plans, strategic policy advice, and progress reports for the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS).

Employment Conditions

The selected candidate may receive:

  • Temporary employment for a trial period of one year, with the prospect of permanent employment.
  • Salary: Scale 11 gross monthly between $4.969,21 – $6.429,30 (36-hour workweek).
  • Working hours: Full-time, 36 hours per week.
  • Allowances: Holiday allowance of 8.33% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.33% of the annual salary.
  • 182 holiday hours per year pro rata based of a 36-hour working week.

Required Skills and Competencies

Job requirements

  • Completed HBO+/Bachelor degree in Social Work, Social Sciences, Pedagogy, Public Administration, Law, or another relevant field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience at policy or coordination level in the field of domestic violence, child protection, youth care, safeguarding, or social policy;
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary partnerships and governmental or semi-governmental organisations is considered an advantage;
  • Affinity with the Caribbean region and understanding of local cultural and societal dynamics;
  • Experience in coordinating projects, programmes, or policy implementation processes;
  • Demonstrable experience advising management, governmental organisations, or multidisciplinary stakeholders within a politically sensitive environment.
