Tasks and Responsibilities

The Public Health Department is looking for a Healthy Lifestyle Officer (nutrition) who approaches nutrition and healthy living from a community and systems-based perspective. The focus of this role is not on individual diet counselling, but on strengthening families, households and target groups across the island community.

In this position, you will design and implement sustainable lifestyle programmes together with residents and partner organisations. You will work outreach-based across the island, taking into account the cultural and social context of a small island community. Prevention, health promotion and behavioural change at group and systems level are central to this role.

What will you do?

 

As Healthy Lifestyle Officer (nutricion), you will:

  • Develop and deliver family-focused nutrition and lifestyle programmes;
  • Design and implement healthy lifestyle initiatives for specific target groups such as youth, elderly residents and families with increased health risks;
  • Organise group sessions, workshops and community events;
  • Identify public health challenges within the community and translate these into targeted interventions;
  • Work closely with schools, healthcare professionals, social organisations and local stakeholders;
  • Provide advice on prevention policy and health promotion strategies;
  • Monitor, evaluate and improve programmes and projects;
  • Encourage long-term behavioural change and community ownership of healthy lifestyle initiatives.

Employment Conditions

The selected candidate may receive:

  • Temporary employment for a fixed period of one year.
  • Salary: Scale 9, gross monthly between $3,772.92 – $5,061.23 (based on a 36-hour workweek)
  • Working hours: Full-time, 36 hours per week.
  • Allowances: Holiday allowance of 8.33% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.33% of the annual salary.
  • 182 holiday hours per year pro rata based of a 36-hour working week.

Required Skills and Competencies

Job requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (Hbo level) in Nutrition & Dietetics or similar relevant field;
  • Experience with family systems or community-based health interventions;
  • Proven experience in developing lifestyle, prevention or health promotion programmes for groups;
  • Experience working independently and outreach-based;
  • Preferably experience in an island environment or within the Caribbean Netherlands.

An assessment, case, and/or reference check may be part of the procedure. The selected candidate must provide a certificate of good conduct (VOG) and undergo medical evaluation for inclusion in the pension fund.
