The Public Entity Sint Eustatius (OLE) carries out both municipal and provincial tasks on this special municipality of the Netherlands. Tasks and Responsibilities

As a Junior Legal Adviser, you support the Executive Council and the civil service organisation on legal and administrative matters. You assist in preparing legal advice, drafting documents and supporting policy and decision-making processes.

In this role you contribute to the preparation and review of island ordinances, regulations and administrative decisions. You work closely with senior legal advisers and policy staff to ensure that legal processes and documentation are accurate, well prepared and compliant with applicable legislation and regulations.

This is a development-oriented role that offers the opportunity to gain experience in public law, governance processes and policy development within a small and dynamic government organisation.

Employment Conditions

The selected candidate may receive:

  • Temporary employment for a trial period of one year, with the prospect of permanent employment.
  • Salary: Scale 9, gross monthly between $3,772.92– $5,061.23 (36-hour workweek).
  • Working hours: Full-time, 36 hours per week.
  • Allowances: Holiday allowance of 8.33% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.33% of the annual salary.
  • 182 holiday hours per year pro rata based of a 36-hour working week.
  • Benefits: Inclusion in the pension fund.

What is also important to know

An assessment, case, and/or reference check may be part of the procedure. The selected candidate must provide a certificate of good conduct (VOG) and undergo medical evaluation for inclusion in the pension fund.

The following order of preference will be applied during the selection process:

  • Employees of the Public Entity Sint Eustatius (internal)

  • Residents from or currently living on Sint Eustatius

  • Residents of the Caribbean part of the Netherlands

  • All other candidates

What will you do?

  • Assisting in drafting and reviewing island regulations (Decrees, Ordinances and policies)

  • Supporting the preparation of legal advice and background documentation for the Executive Council, and Directorates and Units.

  • Collecting and analysing relevant legal and policy information.

  • Preparing summaries, reports and legal notes for internal use.

  • Monitoring progress of legal and policy processes and maintaining case files and dossiers.

  • Supporting meetings, working groups or projects by preparing documentation and recording outcomes.

  • Sharing relevant legal information with colleagues across the organization.

Job requirements

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree in Dutch Law or Dutch Caribbean Law.

  • Up to 2 years of relevant legal experience (internships or traineeships are also considered).

  • Affinity with public law, governance processes or public administration.

  • Basic knowledge of administrative law and legal procedures.

  • Interest in legislation and policy processes within government.
