The policy employee creates reports, advice and policies to promote the healthy and positive development of children; while supporting, guiding and coaching parents/ guardians, clients and stakeholders to create a safe and educational atmosphere and home upbringing.

In addition, you assess the signals of a situation, and you consider what the most suitable next step would be. You act in the event of acute problem situations and crisis. You initiate the help of the Reporting Center for Domestic Violence and Child Abuse.

Taken en verantwoordelijkheden

  • Collects and studies information concerning internal and external occurrences surrounding child development;
  • Interprets Dutch legislation in the field, makes recommendations and gives advice;
  • Draws up new policy surrounding child development and approaches, makes proposals for policy adjustments, draws up notes, reports and briefs and provides advice;
  • Calls attention to developments and movements in the relevant section of the policy area and responds to them;
  • Has discussions with relevant stakeholders in the policy field, performs calculations and assesses schemes, procedures and the like for user friendliness, efficiency, consistency, (legal) correctness and the degree of acceptance by users;
  • Provides guidance to parents that seek advice for alternative child development approaches. The pedagogue supports parents with practical advice and or guidance;
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of a plan of approach; may also have to conduct home visits to clients;
  • Maintains contact with informants and meets with various internal and external stakeholders who provide information

Arbeidsvoorwaarden

The selected candidate may receive:

  • Temporary employment for a trial period of one year, with the prospect of permanent employment.
  • Salary: Scale 10, gross monthly between $4,099.58 – $5,320.73 (36-hour workweek).
  • Working hours: Full-time, 36 hours per week.
  • Allowances: Holiday allowance of 8.33% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.33% of the annual salary.
  • 168 holiday hours per year pro rata based of a 36-hour working week.
  • Benefits: Inclusion in the pension fund.

  • A relocation scheme for candidates who respond from outside the island.

Additional requirements: An assessment, case, and/or reference check may be part of the procedure. The selected candidate must provide a certificate of good conduct (VOG) and undergo medical evaluation for inclusion in the pension fund.

The following order of preference will be applied during the selection process:

  • Employees of the Public Entity Sint Eustatius (internal)
  • Residents from or currently living on Sint Eustatius
  • Residents of the Caribbean part of the Netherlands
  • All other candidates

A preference will be given to candidates who are locally based.

Functievereisten

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pedagogy, Children rights, or Child Development studies or similar work-related studies.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a child development/pedagogy related function;
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience with developing and facilitating child related development policies.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Dutch.

Vereiste Vaardigheden en Competenties

Knowledge of the relevant section of the policy area and the related rules and regulations;

  • Insight into the functioning of public administration and the organization;

  • Skills in analyzing policy developments and the drawing up of policy advice, notes, reports, etc.;

  • Skills in giving advice;

  • Skills in evaluating (project)plans and requests.
