Temporary position for a trial period of one year, with the prospect of permanent employment | Full-time

As a Public Health Inspector, you ensure that the community lives and eats safely. Each day brings a mix of tasks: sometimes you’re out in the field, visiting restaurants, schools, supermarkets and bakeries to check hygiene standards. At other times, you’re at your desk, turning inspection notes into official reports that may later support legal enforcement. Through it all, you act as a guardian of public health, ensuring that local businesses comply with laws designed to keep everyone safe.

Taken en verantwoordelijkheden

Monitor compliance with public health laws, regulations and food safety standards.
· Provide guidance and awareness to businesses, schools, institutions, and the public about health and safety practices.
· Take drinking water samples from rain tanks, check hygiene conditions, and educate the public on safe water practices.
· Inspect imported fruit and other products brought in by ships for local consumption to ensure they meet hygiene and safety requirements.
· Oversee medical checks of food handlers and vendors.
· Coordinate the safe removal of dead animals from public areas.
· Maintain and manage the public complaints register, ensuring that health-related concerns are documented, investigated and resolved.

Arbeidsvoorwaarden

Temporary employment for a trial period of one year, with the prospect of permanent employment.
· Salary: Scale 8, gross monthly from $3,140.10 to $4,361.25 (36-hour workweek). Placement in start-up scale 7 is possible if mandatory training is required. Salary placement is based on qualifications and experience, in line with the Statia Government salary table of 4 December 2024.
· Working hours: Full-time, 36 hours per week.
· Allowances: Holiday allowance of 8.33% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.33% of the annual salary.
· Benefits: Inclusion in the pension fund.

Functievereisten

MBO Level 4 diploma in Hospitality Management, Food Science, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certification or similar.
· Minimum two years’ experience in food hygiene and/or nutrition or a similar position.
· Special enforcement certification (BAVPOL) or willingness to obtain it.
· Clear communication skills in both English and Dutch (verbal and written).
· Ability to clearly explain rules and regulations to others in a simplified manner.
· Knowledge of public health, food safety and environmental regulations.
· Strong inspection, observation and reporting abilities.
