Volunteer Search and Rescue Crew Member
We are recruiting volunteer crew members to join Statia's local Search and Rescue (SAR) unit, which forms part of the new joint SAR organisation with Saba.
As a volunteer, you will become part of a professional emergency response team dedicated to assisting people in distress at sea. Statia has its own operational SAR vessel, and our goal is to maintain a team of four to eight trained crew members who are ready to respond within 15 minutes of an emergency call, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
We are looking for motivated individuals who are committed to serving the community and are willing to make a difference when it matters most.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Respond to maritime emergencies as part of the Search and Rescue team.
- Participate in Search and Rescue operations when called upon.
- Attend mandatory training sessions and regular exercises.
- Assist with the maintenance and preparation of rescue equipment and the SAR vessel.
- Work closely with fellow volunteers and emergency response partners.
- Follow operational procedures and safety protocols at all times.
- Be available to respond to emergency call-outs when on duty.

Required Skills and Competencies
- At least 18 years of age.
- Good communication skills.
- Able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Physically fit, stress-resistant and a competent swimmer.
- Available to volunteer a few hours each month. Availability during weekday office hours is an advantage.
- Willing to complete the required education and training.
- Able to obtain a Certificate of Good Conduct (Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag (VOG)).
