Activities were coordinated by Mrs Amarikinia Lopes-Robins and provided participants with opportunities to stay active while learning about the importance of making healthy food choices. Throughout the week, youngsters took part in a variety of activities, including Zumba and fitness dance workouts, volleyball, bocce, softball and baseball. Children attending day-care centres also participated in Miffy Moves sessions, while schools received fresh fruit for the preparation of healthy fruit kebabs, reinforcing the importance of healthy eating habits.
Reflecting on the week, Mrs Lopes-Robins said:
"It was wonderful to see the joy and energy of our youth. They not only participated actively in every sport but also showed genuine excitement for healthy choices. Each activity was accompanied by a small bag of fresh fruit, reinforcing that healthy eating can be fun and easy."
A special word of thanks is extended to the MDT Statia participants (Maatschappelijke Dienst Tijd), whose support helped make the week a success. Their efforts in preparing and distributing fresh fruit to schools ensured that children were able to participate in the healthy eating activities.
By combining physical activity with healthy eating, Healthy Youth Week 2026 promoted habits that contribute to the physical and mental well-being of young people.
The Directorate of Social Domain and JOGG thank Mrs Amarikinia Lopes-Robins, the Prevention Clinic staff, MDT Statia participants, participating schools, sports facilities, fitness and Zumba facilitators, and volunteers for their valuable contributions to the successful delivery of Healthy Youth Week 2026.
