Rules and Regulations
Local ordinances, including Article 6.2.1 (Verontreiniging van de weg en van terreinen) and 6.2.2 (Verbod schadelijke lozingen) of the Algemene Plaatselijke Verordening (APV), provide the legal framework to prevent illegal dumping. These regulations exist to protect public health and the environment. Penalties may be applied when rules are violated, but the most effective protection comes from consistent community participation. By using designated collection points, properly sorting waste, and reporting illegal dumping when it occurs, residents help safeguard Statia’s environment, public health, and quality of life for everyone on the island.

How You Can Keep Contributing
Separate recyclable and non-recyclable waste before putting it in your bins. Other, larger waste can go to the waste facility, where separated waste can often be deposited for free or for a small fee. Bring your own reusable bag when you go for groceries, and a reusable cup or bottle when you get a drink on the road, so you don’t have to use single-use plastic bags or cups. Join community clean-up days and encourage friends and family to do the same. Keep sharing your pride in a clean, safe, and green Statia.
