During the opening, Job Coach Maxine Spanner Suares highlighted the importance of continuing the Job Training Programmes, now in their second phase. She stressed three key goals: restoring essential professions, creating real opportunities for growth, and supporting broader social development. Addressing the candidates, she encouraged them to make the most of this opportunity, reminding them that their future begins now.
Unit Manager Vernon Illidge reminded the candidates that being selected makes them key stakeholders in the programme’s success. He encouraged them to stay focused and committed despite challenges, stressing the benefits of personal development, serving as ambassadors for Statia, and strengthening partnerships with institutions. He urged the students to use their support systems, communicate openly with their coaches and families, and honour their commitment to completing the programme.
The event closed with a special appearance by Reinier Lijfrock, a renowned artist with deep roots in Statia. Lijfrock delivered an inspiring message and serenade, motivating the candidates to embrace their opportunities with determination.
The department looks forward to the nine participants completing their programmes and returning home to apply their new skills in the community. By investing in training and career pathways, it continues to expand opportunities, strengthen the workforce, and contribute to the sustainable growth and well-being of Statia.
