Event Categories & Requirements

Event Categories

Events are classified into three categories:

Category A

Events in this category typically include: Private parties, barbecues, food sales, bingos, walkathons, bikeathons, motorcades, ingathering, etc.

 

Category B

Single-day events with an expected attendance of 300–800 people.

Requirements:

  • Stricter safety and public order assessments apply. 

  • A risk assessment (safety plan) is mandatory. 

Application deadline: Submit the application at least three (3) months in advance.

Category C

Events expecting 800+ attendees and spanning multiple days, posing higher risks.

These typically include: Carnival, Easter events, Statia Day, promoter events, music festivals, etc.

Requirements:

  • Stricter safety and public order assessments apply.

  • A risk assessment (safety plan) is mandatory.

Application deadline: Submit the application at least three (3) months in advance.

When an Event Permit May Not Be Required

Your event may not require a permit if it meets all of the following criteria:

  • Has no more than 60 attendees.
  • Ends by midnight (24:00).
  • Produces no excessively loud noise (amplified sound must stop by 23:00)
  • Does not take place on a roadway or parking area, or obstruct traffic and emergency services.
  • Uses only small, movable objects (e.g. tables, chairs, umbrellas).
  • Is reported to the Island Governor at least 10 working days in advance

It is prohibited to organise an event on or near a public road without formal approval from the Island Governor.

Note: Other Permits May Be Required! Even if you don’t need an Event Permit, you may still require a food or alcohol permit. Contact the Governor’s Cabinet to confirm.
